Aflatoxin Poisoned Diamond Dog Food Product Recall

In a press release issued January 10, 2006, Diamond Pet Foods has updated and narrowed the list of aflatoxin poisoned dog food “Best By” dates. According to Diamond Pet Foods, “Testing of more than 2,700 finished product samples conducted by independent laboratories confirms that only Diamond Maintenance Dog and Diamond Premium Adult Dog with “Best By” dates of April 3, April 4, April 5 and April 11, 2007 are potentially toxic. Test results for all other products have not been toxic. Additionally Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul and Premium Edge brands have been tested and are negative for aflatoxin.” In the same press release, Mark Brinkmann, chief operations officer of Diamond Pet Foods stressed that products included in the original voluntary recall should be returned to retailers. Dogs keep dying: Many owners remain unaware of toxic Diamond Dog Food pet food Cornell News Service, January 6, 2006 Even though Diamond, Country Value and Professional brand dog foods have been recalled for containing highly toxic aflatoxins, they have caused at least 100 dog deaths in recent weeks, say Cornell University veterinarians, who are growing increasingly alarmed. While dogs keep dying from eating pet food tainted with aflatoxin, Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is announcing it has developed protein tests that accurately indicate a dog’s liver failure caused by the toxin. Dog owners may want to seek veterinary testing for animals that have been fed affected lots of food even if they are apparently well.
