The Cox Arena at San Diego State University was kept off limits to thousands of fans and players on Thursday, March 16, 2006, after a bomb-sniffing dog alerted on a hot dog cart.
Published reports say preparations for the game between Marquette University and the University of Alabama went on as planned after police concluded it was meat and not explosive heat attracting the dog’s attention.
College spokesman Jack Beresford said “They had a robot go in and disassemble the hot dog cart and look for suspicious substances and at this point we have determined that there is no threat and it’s safe to enter the arena,” according to one news agency account.
