DogExplorer.com News – Published reports that DogExplorer.com is unable to confirm state that the official Chinese People’s Daily (CPD) claims the wheat gluten sold by Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology to Menu Foods and several other pet food companies was not the source of the dog and cat poisonings reported. In preparing this news item a thorough search was made of the CPD (English edition) website, but no reference to the wheat gluten story was found. In the meantime, another company name has come to light: ChemNutra, Inc., of Las Vegas, Nevada. Alpo dog food, while not made by Menu Foods, may have been contaminated by wheat gluten from the same supplier. As a result Nestle Purina PetCare Company has recalled all sizes and varieties of ALPO Prime Cuts in Gravy wet dog food (with certain product dates and codes). “The recalled 13.2-ounce and 22-ounce ALPO Prime Cuts cans and 6-, 8-, 12- and 24-can ALPO Prime Cuts Variety Packs have four-digit code dates of 7037 through 7053, followed by the plant code 1159. Dog Food Recall – Rat Poison – Aminopterin Link In Menu Foods

DogExplorer.com News – State officials in New York have detected a substance used both as a rat poison and anti-cancer drug, Aminopterin, in samples of suspect pet food. No explanation was given as to how the poison entered the food or when in the process the dog and cat foods became contaminated. Neither State nor Federal law enforcement agencies have indicated any criminal investigations are planned. According to Wikipedia, Aminopterin (4-aminopteroic acid) is a 4-amino analog of folic acid. It is a substance with properties that suppress the immune system (lower anti infection system strength in the body) and is commonly used in chemotherapy.
