Dog Picture: Chocolate Labrador Retriever Puppy

Posted in Dog Pictures

The only thing better than dog pictures and cute photographs of puppies are dogs and puppies themselves. So to celebrate our dog buddies, we are starting a regular feature where we run a single dog picture either shot by one of our readers or produced by DogExplorer.com There are no prizes and it is not a contest. But if you have a picture you think worthy of our front page, please upload it to the correct album in our dog picture gallery and then send us a note through our contact page. These pictures can be anything dog related, from portraits at rest to action shots and funny moments. Our first installment is a picture of Kimberly, an adorable Chocolate Labrador Retriever Puppy. Glimpses of Vivi The Missing Whippet Dog In NYC

Posted in Dog News

Wire services and major news outlets continue to buzz with unsubstantiated rumors of Vivi sightings in and around New York. The Los Angeles Times ran a breathless headline claiming “New York’s Wild Whippet Chase Picks Up With Recent Sightings,” and declaring in the story that “Flushing was one big dog trap.” At ABC News, apparently they have managed to capture the pulse of all New York as their headline flatly states “Missing Dog Mystery Consumes New Yorkers.” While your humble correspondent is on the “other” coast, it seems to stretch credibility that the Big Apple has gone entirely to the dogs, er, dog. While even the stodgy Bloomberg news service made the remarkable assertion that Vivi was spotted and touched noses with a Doberman belonging to an unidentified man, closer to home, and, perhaps with its paws a bit...

Bomb Dog No Hot Dog In NCAA View

Posted in Dog News

The Cox Arena at San Diego State University was kept off limits to thousands of fans and players on Thursday, March 16, 2006, after a bomb-sniffing dog alerted on a hot dog cart. Published reports say preparations for the game between Marquette University and the University of Alabama went on as planned after police concluded it was meat and not explosive heat attracting the dog’s attention. College spokesman Jack Beresford said “They had a robot go in and disassemble the hot dog cart and look for suspicious substances and at this point we have determined that there is no threat and it’s safe to enter the arena,” according to one news agency account. Grueling Iditarod Dog Race A Royal Success

Posted in Dog News

The 2006 Iditarod Dog Race is over with Jeff King winning his fourth of the famously grueling Alaskan dog races. King completed the trek on March 14, 2006, covering the 1,100-mile race with an elapsed time of 9 days, 11 hours and 11 minutes. The race ended for King and his dog team in Nome, Alaska, just after 1:00 a.m. local time. As we publish this story, the expected runner up is Doug Swingley, who is several hours behind Jeff King. His win this year makes King, at 50, the oldest musher to win the Iditarod, the world’s longest sled dog race, and one of only four mushers to win four Iditarod dog races.
