Sam, the three time champion of the Sonoma-Marin Fair ugly dog contest, also won the DogExplorer.com World’s Ugliest Dog contest, on November 16, 2005, just two days before his death at the age of 14. The contest, judged by readers of DogExplorer.com, ran from October 6, 2005, through November 15, 2005. A clear leader in a pack of six ugly dogs, Sam took this final prize in the first contest open to entrants from around the world and voted on by members of the public.
