Worlds Ugliest Dog Yoda Dies

Posted in Dog News

Yoda, the 2011 winner of the Sonoma-Marin World’s Ugliest Dog Contest has died according to reports. Apparently the 15 year old Chihuahua-Chinese Crested mutt mix died in her sleep 10 March 2012. Her owner found her as a stray behind an apartment building though at first she believed she was looking at a rat, not a tiny, future World’s Ugliest Dog champion. Like many aging Chinese Crested dogs, Yoda was sporting a face with a tongue flopped out way behind her tiny mouth. Rest in peace Yoda and our sympathies to your owner. {mosloadposition...

Meet Dr. William “Bill” McCulloch Co-Founder of the Delta Society

Posted in Dog News

DogExplorer.com recently sat down with Dr. William McCulloch to learn about the Delta Society, how this extraordinary companion animal assistance and therapy organization began, and his vision for its future. History Dr. McCulloch started as a small animal veterinarian before joining the faculties of several veterinary schools. He had often observed firsthand the healing bond between his patients and their human caregivers, and he began to advocate for medical research to study the phenomenon. When his younger brother, the late Dr. Michael McCulloch, became a psychiatrist, the two brothers, together with several other veterinarians, founded the Delta Foundation to provide funding and direction for this research. Delta came from the Greek letter and mathematical symbol of the same name, which is represented by a triangle: human, animal, and health professionals, each representing a point. In 1981 the Foundation became...

Pooch Parade 2011 Returns To Ventura July 24

Posted in Dog News

Ventura will once again host the popular dog rescue benefit known as the Pooch Parade. Taking place July 24, 2011, this year’s event marks the fourteenth anniversary of the fundraiser for local non-profit Canine Adoption & Rescue League (CARL). Held at San Buenaventura State Beach Park, the hours are 9:00 am through 4:00 pm with activities scheduled throughout the day. This year’s theme is “Prevent A Litter – Fix Your Critter.” Billed as a “Fundraising Dog Walk & Pet Expo,” the Pooch Parade begins each year with a three mile stroll for people and pooches along the picturesque Ventura coastline by participants who, in the same style as other charitable “walks,” have gathered pledges for donations. That’s followed by a silent auction, friendly competitions and performances of various dog specialties and sports. Over the years there have been dog...
